ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Here’s a Good Question about your holiday decorations.
Paul asked News10NBC’s Brennan Somers: "Should we recycle Christmas tree lights that no longer work or just throw them away?"
Recycling or reusing what you have is always a good option. If the lights still work, you can check local donation sites like Goodwill and they’ll take them off your hands.
If you’ve got old strings of lights with issues you can take them to Monroe County’s ecopark by the airport.
You can drop off holiday lights there year-round at no charge.
There have been other programs with hardware stores running seasonal recycling programs. They may even offer you a discount on a trade-in for new lights.
If you don’t want to leave the house, you can ship your lights to a group called Holiday LEDS and you’ll get a coupon in return.
