ROCHESTER N.Y. (WHEC) — A semi driver from Hamlin is facing charges after a deadly crash in Indiana. Six vehicles were involved. Two people were killed. Four others have serious injuries.

Chasen Thompson, 26, is charged with Possession of Marijuana. His blood is being tested. Authorities are waiting on the results to see if there will be any more charges.

Indiana State Police say Thompson was driving a Hilton Spencerport Express tractor trailer and didn’t slow down near a construction site on the Indiana Toll Road near South Bend around 3 p.m. on June 1. Investigators say Thompson crashed into five vehicles. One of them, a 2015 Jeep caught fire. The driver of the Jeep, a 45-year-old from Ohio was pronounced dead at the scene. An 82-year-old Illinois woman in another car was also killed. Four other people were taken to the hospital with serious, but non life-threatening injuries.

"We’re deep into construction season. We’re going to see them throughout the summer and into the fall. I think the time to get ready for that is passed," said Indiana State Police Sgt. Ted Bohner. "We need to be in that mode of driving expecting to come up on these work sites and drive accordingly and be aware of everything."

Again, Thompson was driving for Hilton Spencerport Express. It’s a family owned company out of Kendall. News10NBC reached out to the company. Officials say their thoughts and prayers are with families of victims. We also asked about Thompson’s employment status. They told us they don’t have an update at this time.
