CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. (WHEC)— It’s that time of the year, we have the first confirmed harmful algae bloom found in our area this summer.

According to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation’s website, the bloom was confirmed in Canandaigua Lake on July 1.
The DEC says people and pets should avoid contact with water that has scum on the surface or is discolored.

We checked, and public swimming on the lake is not impacted by this bloom.
