ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) – The fundraiser for the family of fallen Rochester Police Officer Tony Mazurkiewicz took place on Saturday at Greece Ridge Mall, and hundreds of people showed up. They walked to pay their respects and to help support the family.
All the money raised is going to the Locust Club, and the Rochester Police Union. The club will give the money to the Mazurkiewicz family.
"It’s been a very trying time for law enforcement. Not just for the passing of Officer Maz, but also a lot of changes over the last few years, spikes in violence and you know when organizations put together events like this, when you start to think that the community is not supporting you, it reinvigorates the men and women in uniform to go out and serve the community the way you’re supposed to," said Commander Jeffrey LaFave of the RPD.
Operation Patriot did not set a goal for this fundraiser, but they said they raised about $10,000 for the event they did after the murder of RPD Officer Daryl Pierson.
