Hunter charged with criminally negligent homicide

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. (WHEC) – A Clifton Springs man has been charged in connection with the death of his hunting partner.

61-year-old Kevin Hudson is charged with criminally negligent homicide. The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office says he was hunting with 28-year-old Zachary Barse on Thanksgiving in a wooded off Cross Rd. in the Town of Phelps.

Deputies say Barse was tracking a wounded deer when Hudson fired from his tree stand, thinking Barse was the deer. Barse was hit in the upper body by the shotgun round and pronounced dead at the scene.

Hudson was issued an appearance ticket and released.
