IRONDEQUOIT, N.Y. (WHEC)— Monroe County leaders announced an Irondequoit marina is getting a bit of a building boost following years of flood damage.

County Executive Adam Bello said Sutter’s Marina will undergo work that will include a new operating space that houses offices, and a small supply shop which will be constructed to better hold up against floodwaters. The marina’s fuel pump dock will also get a boost.

The marina, like many businesses and homes along the water, took a costly hit due to record floods in 2017 and 2019.

"So today groundbreaking of this project at Sutter’s Marina is critical," Bello said. "It’s critical that we stand the test of time, against rising floodwaters, but also to make sure that the waterfront areas and opportunities for recreation and business that we have here continue to be an economic driver for our region,"

The new marina is being funded by a $233,000 New York State Lake Ontario Resiliency and Economic Development Initiative (REDI) grant, with Monroe County providing a 5% local project cost match.
