IRONDEQUOIT, N.Y. (WHEC) — An Irondequoit Police officer resigned after town leaders say he was involved in an off-duty fight earlier this month.

In a statement Monday, Town Supervisor Dave Seeley and Police Chief Alan Laird said Sgt. Jason Hughes resigned Friday after the fight happened at a bar in Rochester on July 17.

"A preliminary inquiry into the incident made it clear that the officer in question, Sgt Jason Hughes, acted in a manner that is unequivocally inconsistent with the values of the Irondequoit Police Department, town government and the entire Irondequoit community." the statement read.

Laird confirmed Hughes’s resignation to News10NBC on Friday but did not detail the exact nature of his resignation.

Hughes was previously arrested in 2011 in connection with a bar fight that left a man seriously injured. He was cleared in that case and reinstated by the Irondequoit Police Department.
