GREECE, N.Y. (WHEC) – The high school basketball team manager who went viral in 2006 for nailing six three-pointers at his school’s basketball game, crashed his bike into a car on the way to work Monday.
Jason "J-Mac" McElwain’s mother, Debbie McElwain said he has several broken ribs on his right side. His right lung is collapsed.
"They put a tube with an IV to drain blood out of his lung, Jason got anxious. Autism causes heightened anxiety, so they induced a coma with sedation to put the breathing tube down his throat. They also gave him a nerve block for when he wakes up," said Debbie McElwain.
It happened this afternoon between Wendy’s and the Bank. He was on his way to his job as a bus monitor for Greece Central Schools. .
Doctors initially told his mother that Jason should be out of the hospital in 3-4 days, but now they’re saying possibly a week.
They did a cat scan and he had no head injuries. He was wearing his helmet.
