ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — This year’s Lilac Festival is getting bigger with the addition of a new event after the Lilac Unity Parade.

It’s called "The Big Sing". Two-hundred Gospel singers from across Monroe County will be performing at the festival right after the march.

It fits with the county’s bicentennial theme of "Celebrate More".

"We’re finally able to celebrate together again safely as we emerge from the pandemic," said Monroe County Executive Adam Bello. "Add to that, we’re celebrating Monroe County’s bicentennial, and the very nature of our Lilac Festival calls back to our roots, the City of Rochester—the Flower City."

The big sing will be a sing-along, involving everyone there watching.

This year’s free Lilac Festival is spread out over three weekends, starting May 6.
