ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — You’ve heard about the big man in red, but the folks in blue are spreading Christmas cheer too, this year.

Officers from multiple local departments have been working with Toys for Tots throughout the day.

Rochester and Irondequoit Police were out Thursday morning delivering toys.

Some officers are even keeping them handy on the job.

"A lot of times when the community deals with police, it’s at a bad time in their life,” Sgt. Adam Correia said. “So when the police show up, if we can kind of bring some joy to a child to realize that the police are there to help and they do really care and the whole purpose is to help them out."

Those police are working with Bivona Child Advocacy and other organizations to spread the holiday cheer as far as they can.
