ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — The man accused of shooting and killing 42-year-old Keegan Whitley back in August of 2021 pleaded guilty to first degree manslaughter on Wednesday.

The Aug. 28, 2021 shooting happened at the corner of Flower City Park and Primrose Street. Prosecutors say 26-year-old Tyrique Griffin shot Whitley once in the back, killing him.

Police arrested Griffin in October and said that Griffin chased Whitley for at least a quarter of a mile before catching up to him and shooting him. At the time of the shooting, police said Griffin had an outstanding warrant for failing to appear in court on a pending criminal charge.

Griffin will be sentenced to 25 years in the New York State Department of Corrections on June 17, 2022, as part of his plea deal according to the District Attorney’s Office.
