Man shot dead on Avenue A, marking city’s 53rd homicide of 2021

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Rochester Police are investigating a deadly shooting on the city’s north side Sunday morning.

Police responded around 8:45 a.m. to the 200 block of Avenue A for the report of gunshots fired.

Upon arrival, police found a man in his 40s lying on the sidewalk suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say the man was sitting in a chair on the sidewalk when he was approached and shot multiple times. The man did not live on Avenue A, but he is from the City of Rochester.

The name of the man has not yet been released pending notification of family.

There are no suspects in custody at this time. Anyone with information is asked to call 911.

This marks the city’s 53rd homicide this year, surpassing 2020.
