Marshals: 18-year-old charged in May shooting, North Street crash after chase

NEWARK, N.Y. (WHEC) — An 18-year-old is facing charges of second degree assault and second degree criminal possession of a weapon in connection to a May 13 shooting on North Goodman Street.

The United States Marshals Service Fugitive Task said they found the suspect on Church Street in Newark, Wayne County, on Tuesday at around 6:30 p.m. and took him into custody.

Marshals said they turned him over to the Rochester Police Department, who charged him as a juvenile because he was 17-years-old at the time that the shooting happened. A 15-year-old and a 19-year-old were shot but survived.

Marshals said he is one of three people who fled from police in a vehicle on Friday, July 30, crashed at the intersection of North Street and Clifford Avenue, then ran from police.

Marshals said the suspect was in court on Aug. 4 then remanded to the Monroe County Children’s Detention Center because of his age at the time that the crime happened.
