ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) – Monroe County Executive Adam Bello and Rochester Mayor Malik Evans announced plans Wednesday to celebrate the county’s bicentennial.

The 200-year anniversary will be branded as "Celebrate More," aiming to bring the community together with numerous events planned throughout 2022.

The first event of the year will be the Winterfest at Mendon Ponds Park. It will take place on Jan. 9 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and include kids activities, hayrides, and sledding (depending on snow), among other fun activities.

The observation of the bicentennial actually began in 2021, but community events were postponed to 2022 due to COVID-19.

“The City of Rochester is the heartbeat of Monroe County and we are happy to join the County Bicentennial and Celebrate More,” said Rochester Mayor Malik Evans.
