More than 500 lose power in Rochester area

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — More than 500 people in the Rochester area were without power Friday morning, just hours after a line of storms came through the area and showed several large flashes of lightning overnight.

According to RG&E, 153 people in Monroe County are in the dark as of 8 a.m.

Earlier, 567 people were without power, including 514 people in the City of Rochester. 53 customers without power between Greece and Henrietta. A majority of the outages in the city are in the Beechwood neighborhood.

Previously, neighbors living in the South Wedge experienced difficulties getting power after a recent heat wave led to an "overloaded" system.

RG&E estimates power should be back on no later than 9:00 a.m.
