ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Rochester’s Boys and Girls Club is cheering for a boost in federal money as it deals with pandemic challenges.

Saturday, its leaders came together to praise a measure just approved in the United States Congress to provide $98,400 for the organization. Congressman Joe Morelle made the announcement.

The club says it plans to use the money to offer more education in entrepreneurship, science, technology, engineering and math, and career training. Boys and Girls Club leaders say their kids are struggling through the effects of the coronavirus pandemic.

Last year they say very few kids showed up at the club but not anymore.

The funds are part of a community funding project program, which is in an appropriations bill passed by the house and still waiting to be approved by the senate. Recently, Morelle helped secure more than $500,000 to the Baden Street Settlement in Rochester.
