BUFFALO, N.Y. (WHEC) – A mother and her two-year-old daughter were killed in an early morning fire Monday in Buffalo.
The fire broke out around 1:30 a.m. on Weiss Street. Buffalo fire officials say it started in a lower floor and spread up the staircase, preventing an inside rescue. Four firefighters were also injured. They were treated and released. Two dogs were killed.
The victims have been identified as 31-year-old Stephanie Schultze and her daughter Stella. They are believed to have died from smoke inhalation.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, but Buffalo’s Fire Commissioner says the home did not have smoke detectors.
