ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — The new baby Masai giraffe at the Seneca Park Zoo is doing well and walking.
Monroe County Executive Adam Bello tweeted video of the calf Monday, announcing that the boy is doing well, and thanking zoo staff for doing their best to ensure the best outcome for him and his mother, Iggy.
In the video, the adorable calf walks straight toward the camera, then turns around and walk back toward his mother, who meets him halfway and nuzzles him.
IT’S A BOY!

I’m happy to report that the newest member of our @SenecaParkZoo family, a male Masai Giraffe calf born on Friday, is doing well. I’m grateful to our zoo veterinary staff for their hard work ensuring the best outcome for Iggy and her calf. pic.twitter.com/9HgDZvu9P4
When Bello first announced the calf’s birth on Friday, he and zoo officials said giraffe births are always high risk, so the next few days were critical for keeping the mom and baby healthy.
It looks like the zoo staff was successful!
