WHITEHALL, N.Y. (WNYT/WHEC) — A soldier from the Capital Region surprised his children at school Friday after he’s spent the last nine months in Iraq, and a year training before that.

Tim Gordon walked into his daughter’s classroom first, then they went to surprise his son together.

Both were emotional reunions.

"It’s absolutely amazing," Gordon said before he saw them. "I can’t wait to see them. A year is a long time and they’re just going to be so much more grown than when I left. Facetime doesn’t do it justice. When we reached out to Whitehall Schools to this they have been so so helpful in getting this ready and they’re a big part of it."
