NBC begins month-long ‘Clear the Shelters’ campaign

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Monday marked the start of NBC’s annual, month-long “Clear the Shelters” campaign.

It’s year seven of the effort to find homes for animals housed in shelters around the country.

The campaign started Monday morning in Morristown, New Jersey, where a special airlift of more than 150 at-risk dogs and cats arrived from New Orleans.

“Clear the Shelters” runs through Sept. 19. Click here for more information.

Locally, shelters are experiencing overcrowding and need help from people looking to foster or adopt pets. The Verona Street Animal Society is waiving adoption fees starting Monday, Aug. 23 through Sept. 22. It does require people to make appointments to adopt. Click here for more information.
