New York marks first state-sponsored Overdose Awareness Day

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — The first state-sponsored Overdose Awareness Day was announced Thursday by the New York State Department of Health.

The virtual event held Thursday honors the lives lost to overdoses and recognizes the achievements of people and groups working to curb the number of overdoses.

Throughout the day, breakout sessions have explored grief and loss, caring for frontline staff, and overdose prevention.
