ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — A nursing home employee has been indicted of sex abuse and endangering the welfare of an incompetent person after police say he abused a resident with dementia.

Khadka Pradhan, 51, was working as a custodian at the Shore Winds Nursing Home when it happened in September 2021 in the resident’s room.

The indictment charges are first degree rape, first degree criminal sexual act, and three other related crimes. If convicted, Pradhan will face up to 25 years in state prison.

The criminal complaint against Pradhan said the victim, a woman, was unable to consent.

Pradhan was arraigned in September. His bail was $10,000 cash, $50,000 bond or $100,000 secured bond.

The New York Attorney General’s Office is prosecuting the case.

The Shore Winds said Pradhan was immediately suspended without pay and barred from the facility, and will remain as such pending the outcome of the investigation.

It also sent News10NBC the following statement:

"The Shore Winds Nursing Home is fully cooperating and supporting local authorities regarding an alleged incident. This is an active investigation in the preliminary discovery phase. As such, we are unable to comment further at this time."
