ROCHESTER N.Y. (WHEC) — Rochester police have arrested Darrell Griffin, a 33-year-old parolee, for a deadly April 24 shooting on West Main Street.

Griffin was charged with murder in the deadly shooting of 32-year-old Omar Hughley, who was found dead outside of the Minq Lounge nightclub.

The Rochester Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit said that the shooting started as an attempted robbery. An investigation identified Griffin as the suspect and the RPD Tactical Unit took him into custody.

Griffin was charged with criminal possession of a weapon in addition to murder because his previous felony conviction prohibited him from possessing a firearm. He served time in prison for a 2016 conviction for criminally possessing a weapon and was released on parole supervision in October 2021.

In December of 2021, RPD also stopped Griffin for traffic violations. Officers found he was driving on a suspended license and had crack cocaine in his underwear. He plead guilty in January and received a conditional discharge, meaning that he wouldn’t be punished unless he commit a later offense.
