ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — A Rochester man is dead and another is in critical condition after a Thursday night double shooting that police believe was targeted.
Police went to the scene on Lyell Avenue near North Plymouth Avenue around 11:30 p.m. for the report of someone shot. When officers got to the scene, they found both men in a parking lot.
Both men were taken to Strong Memorial Hospital, where one of the victims, 27-year-old Shawndrick Parker, was pronounced dead. Police initially said the second victim, a man in his 50s, was in critical, life-threatening condition. As of Friday afternoon, police say he is expected to survive but has likely suffered life-altering injuries.
This shooting marks the 41st homicide in Rochester in 2021 and the 194th shooting.
Rochester Police Capt. Frank Umbrino said both men were in the parking lot of the gas station when at least one suspect walked up and shot them. Investigators believe Parker was the target, while the other man was hit by a stray bullet.
Police say there were multiple people in the parking lot at the time of the shooting. No suspects are in custody.
