Police: Man charged with DWI, vehicular manslaughter after hitting woman on Hudson Avenue

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — A man is facing vehicular manslaughter and driving while intoxicated charges after Rochester Police say he hit and killed a woman with his car Monday afternoon.

It happened at around 4 p.m. at the corner of Hudson Avenue and Wilkins Street. Police say as a 27-year-old Rochester woman was walking on the sidewalk when a vehicle driven by Lonnie Gandues, 51, veered off the road and hit her.

She was rushed to URMC, but was pronounced dead shortly after she arrived.

Police say Gandues stayed at the scene and was treated and released at the hospital for minor injuries.

He was charged with second degree vehicular manslaughter, driving while intoxicated and given vehicle and traffic charges.

He is scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday.

Police say additional charges may be presented to a grand jury.
