IRONDEQUOIT, N.Y. (WHEC) — Irondequoit Police say a man rescued from a burning home Sunday evening has died.

IPD Chief Alan Laird confirmed the man’s death to News10NBC Monday morning. Monday evening, Laird said the man was identified as Richard Christiano, 36.

Firefighters originally went to the home on Willowen Drive for a report of a basement fire with two people inside.

One female inside the home made it to safety on her own with no injuries, while, as mentioned, Christiano had to be rescued by fire crews. He suffered smoke inhalation and was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
