Police recover child, still searching for vehicle after theft

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Police are still searching for a car that was stolen Wednesday evening, but have recovered the child who was inside it when it was taken.

It happened at around 5 p.m. on Dewey Avenue near Pullman Avenue.

Police say they were responding to the call for a stolen vehicle when they learned that the owner’s 9-year-old grandson was inside, and more officers flooded the scene, searching for the child.

The child was allowed to get out of the car near Dewey Avenue and West Ridge Road and officers recovered him, uninjured.

Police say they have no suspects in custody and are asking anyone with information to call 911. They did not provide a vehicle description
