Record-breaking rain causes flooding across Finger Lakes region

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Many areas across the Finger Lakes Region are dealing with flooding Tuesday night in the wake of record-breaking rain.

MONROE COUNTY

The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for Monroe County until 11:30 p.m. Tuesday and a flood warning for small streams in southeastern Monroe County until 6 p.m. Wednesday.

The Town of Irondequoit temporarily closed St. Paul Boulevard between Pinegrove Avenue and Thomas Avenue for a downed tree on the wires and Edgebrook Lane for ponding.

News10NBC crews saw people push a car out of the intersection of Avenue A and Conkey Avenue after it was flooded. Neighbors in the area told them they saw a second car get stuck as they were on their way back from the store.

"When we came back we noticed the grey car," Miranda Tongue said. "It was stuck. We already saw the fire truck. The other car thought they could get around both cars and got stuck as well."

They also saw cars attempting to pass through the Hudson Avenue underpass even though it was flooded.

Emergency crews were out asking if anyone’s basements were flooded.

ONTARIO COUNTY

Check out News10NBC’s Emily Putnam as she reported on flooding in Clifton Springs. The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office confirmed major flooding in the village sent multiple families to the area’s YMCA and that the Red Cross is assisting.

The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for Ontario County until 11:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The National Weather Service reports the railroad underpass on Route 96 just east of Route 14 in Phelps was flooded and Route 96 was closed in both directions for several hours but has since reopened.

The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office issued a travel advisory, saying many roads are washed out, and that if you must travel, you should use caution.

It also confirmed that the Finger Lakes Ambulance base was flooded and the organization has temporarily relocated to the Clifton Springs Fire House.

WAYNE COUNTY

The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warning for Wayne County until 11 p.m. Tuesday.

LIVINGSTON COUNTY

The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for Livingston County until 11:30 p.m. Tuesday.

STEUBEN COUNTY

The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warning for Steuben County until 6:45 p.m. Tuesday.

SENECA COUNTY

The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warning for Seneca County until 12:40 p.m. Thursday.

Seneca County Sheriff Tim Luce issued a travel advisory for no unnecessary travel until further notice because of multiple flooded roads in the county. The advisory was lifted Wednesday at 4 a.m.

According to a New York Alert, NY-96 was closed between Marshall Rd and County House Rd in Fayette due to flooding for about two hours, but has since reopened.

YATES COUNTY

The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warning for Yates County until 12:40 p.m. Thursday.

CAYUGA COUNTY

The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warning for Cayuga County until 12:40 p.m. Thursday.

Cayuga County lifted its travel advisory Wednesday morning.

The county says highway departments and emergency crews ran short on barrels and barricades to close all the flooded roadways, and flooded roads may be washed out or have heavy currents, so travel was hazardous.
