Rep. Katko calls for full US boycott of Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — New York Congressman John Katko (R-24) is calling for President Biden to fully boycott the 2022 Winter Olympics in Bejing to protest Chinese human rights abuses.

The call for stronger action from the U.S. Rep. comes a day after the White House said it would "diplomatically" boycott the games. In a statement to CNY Central, Katko said a diplomatic boycott doesn’t go far enough and he would like to see the country fully remove itself from the games.

Katko reaffirmed his opposition to the games due to what he says is the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) abuse of minority Muslim ethnic groups, among other violations.

The games are set to start on February 4, 2022.
