ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — The Rochester Police and Fire departments Thursday tackled a Level 1 Hazmat situation at Bausch & Lomb Thursday and prevented any injuries to employees or damage to the building.

It started with a report that there was an unstable substance in a closed container at the 1400 N. Goodman St. location just before 10 a.m.

RFD says a Level Zero Hazmat was immediately declared before crews deemed the chemical as volatile and possibly explosive, and it was upgraded to a Level 1 Hazmat incident.

The Rochester Police Department Bomb Squad was called in to help.

It took teams about 10 minutes to safely get the chemical into a secure container provided by the bomb squad.

No first responders were injured.
