ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — The ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Merriman Street playground was Monday.

City leaders and members of the community were there to reopen the renovated University Avenue space.

It’s now both safe and accessible and Rochester Mayor Malik Evans said it fulfills the city’s commitment to addressing the increasing demand for outdoor activities and green space.

"I’m the father or two young boys and we probably know every playground in Rochester because we probably played on all of them," Evans said. "They help the city function properly because they help keep our children healthy and safe but above all happy."

The city said the playground was designed to promote healthy living, self-discovery, and positive relationships.
