ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Student engineers at the Rochester Institute of Technology are working with the City of Rochester to improve snow removal in the winter.
Students built a prototype solar monitoring system.
It will provide information about snow build upon the city’s busiest streets, and real-time data to staff so they can open high-traffic areas safely and efficiently.
At the end of this semester, they will have built a high-tech sensor to be installed on a Rochester utility pole.
System data feeds will connect to the city and provide a season of information about snowfall.
