ROC COVID daily health screenings come to an end

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — An online survey tracking COVID-19 symptoms in the region will be coming to end, effective Friday.

The team behind the "ROC COVID" daily health screening said the move is due to increased testing capabilities and vaccination rates.

It was first launched in the spring of 2020 when the pandemic first started. Users could sign up to get daily emails asking for a person to report a wide range of symptoms going from temperature and new cough, to loss of taste and smell. At one point, more than a million screens had been submitted, but concerns were raised over its effectiveness with young people, and in poor and rural communities.

The COVID daily team said more than 60,000 people in total took part, with more than 7 million total screens filed.

The survey spanned multiple counties within the Finger Lakes Region. While the survey will be ended, the website is still up.
