ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Rochester is one of the recipients of the U.S. Department of Justice’s Project Safe Neighborhoods funding.

The Rochester Institute of Technology was awarded $148,584 to administer the grant funds in the Western District of New York.

The money will go toward violence prevention, crisis intervention and victims’ assistance.

Monroe County is also getting $700,000 for Swift, Certain, and Fair Program, a program that focuses on reducing recidivism of firearm offenders.

Project Safe Neighborhoods is supporting efforts across the country to address gun violence at its core.
