ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Rochester City Council is set to vote Tuesday on police spending for license plate readers.
Community organizations say it will allow officers to easily surveil any vehicle suspected of being involved in a crime.
They’re concerned about department overreach, and that policies and procedures associated with the plate-reader won’t be determined until after the vote.
The readers would be paid for using $252,000 in an Introductory 371: NYS Homeland Security Grant for Terrorism Prevention, if authorized, according to City Councilwoman Mary Lupien.
