Rochester man charged with manslaughter in 2019 overdose death

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — A Rochester man was arrested Friday and charged in an overdose death that happened in 2019.

New York State Police say 31-year-old Maurice D. Newton of Rochester sold a 42-year-old East Bloomfield man narcotics containing fentanyl back in December of 2019. That man died of an overdose.

Troopers say they arrested Newton and charged him with second degree manslaughter on Friday after he was released from the Monroe County Jail on unrelated charges.

Newton was processed at SP Canandaigua. Troopers say he is awaiting centralized arraignment at the Ontario County Jail.
