ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Rochester Police say they’re investigating a murder at an apartment complex in the city Monday morning.
Rochester Police Department Major Crimes Unit Capt. Frank Umbrino said officers were called to the Resolute Manor apartments on Resolute Circle for a welfare check around 8 a.m. When officers got to the apartment, they found a man in his 50s dead inside.
"The victim does live at the location where we found him, inside one of the apartments," Umbrino said.
Umbrino said the department is not ready to release how the man died.
Five people in their 50s have been killed in the city so far this year.
He also could not say if anybody was in police custody. The killing marks the 37th recorded homicide in Rochester for 2021.
News10NBC Chief Investigative Reporter Berkeley Brean tried to talk to people at the scene Monday. They either did not know what happened, didn’t know the victim or didn’t want to talk.
Police said they know a lot more about what happened than they can share.
Umbrino did say the incident appears to be targeted.
"What I can tell you at this point, is there is no reason for anyone else that lives here to be in fear," Umbrino said. "We believe this is an isolated incident."
