ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Rochester’s 80th homicide happened on Sunday evening near the playground of School #17 on Orchard Street.

Rochester Police officers went to the scene on Campbell Street for the report of a person shot in the upper body. When officers got there, they learned the victim was driven to Strong Memorial Hospital. The victim, identified as 25-year-old Waltequaries Evans, was pronounced dead shortly after.

"All of my investigators and the police officers… we’re tired of dealing with the violence," said Lt. Michael Perkowski with Rochester Police Department. "We know citizens are sick and tired of dealing with this violence as well. Hopefully, somewhere along the line, people start having more respect for each other and regarding life a little more than what’s happened in 2021."

During the investigation, police learned the man got into an argument with an unknown individual when he was shot.

As of Monday evening, there are no suspects in custody.

The Major Crimes Unit is conducting the investigation and asking anybody with information to call 9111 or the Major Crimes Unit at 585-428-7157. Or, you can email majorcrimes@cityofrochester.gov??????.
