ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Community members are remembering the deadly shooting on Pennsylvania Avenue last year, that killed two people and injured 14 after a similar shooting early Sunday night where two people were killed and two others were shot.
Some of those people spoke to News10NBC’s Stephanie Duprey Sunday night.
"It hurts me to my heart, seeing the same thing, on the same day, almost the same hour, as the pain we felt last year," said Former UPrep Football Coach Kala Gause.
A year later and Gause doesn’t want to believe that more lives are being taken by gun violence.
"We all have to wake up, here you are trying to get over something you wouldn’t want anyone to go through and you wake up and see this news," Gause said.
Jaquayla Young and Jarvis Alexander were both just 19 years old. Gause said that the shooting last year also happened during a large gathering: A house party.
"That person is still out there, on the street, you don’t know if it’s one two or three tat planned it but you want to tell your kids, hey, none of these parties, no house parties," Gause said.
Presumptive mayor-elect Malik Evans (D) said he knows dozens of community organizations that want to help curb the violence.
"The question is, how can I take all those folks from the community that want to help from grass roots community to CEOs who want to help solve the problems in Rochester," Evans said.
The Rochester Police Department still hasn’t charged anyone in that shooting.
This morning’s shooting is still under investigation.
