Rochester woman caught with loaded handgun at Rochester Airport
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — A Rochester woman was caught with a gun at the Frederick Douglass Greater Rochester International Airport on Saturday.
Security officials say they detected the gun in the woman’s carry-on bag. The woman told authorities that she uses the bag for work and forgot that she had it in her bag.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Department responded to the airport and confiscated the gun.
“The team at the airport in Rochester is to be commended for their good work in detecting this firearm,” said Bart R. Johnson, TSA Federal Security Director for Upstate New York. “If you own a firearm, you should know where it is at all times. Forgetting that you have a loaded gun with you is no excuse. This individual now faces a stiff federal financial civil penalty.”
Passengers are allowed to travel with firearms but it has to be in a checked bag and declared at their airline ticket counter.
