Rochester woman charged after crashing into home, injuring 5 children

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Five children went to the hospital for minor injuries after a car crashed into a home on the city’s northeast side.
Fire crews responded to Thomas Street, off Clifford Avenue, just before 6 p.m. Tuesday. Police say the car, driven by 47-year-old Jawanda Chandler of Rochester, ended up in the living room.
Fire officials say a 36-year-old woman and five children, ages 2 to 13, were in the living room when the car crashed into the house.
All five children were taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. The adult in the home and the driver were not injured. No one else was in the car at the time of the crash.
Police charged Chandler with driving while ability impaired by drugs and third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation. She due in court on July 30.
Fire crews removed the car from the house. The house sustained significant damage and is unlivable. The American Red Cross is assisting the family.
