RPD: 18-year-old arrested for Hillside Children’s Center arson

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Rochester Police and fire investigators charged an 18-year-old suspect who lives at the Hillside Children’s Center with arson after they say he set a mattress on fire Monday night.

It happened just after 6:30 p.m.

The suspect left the facility shortly after the fire. Investigators say he was found nearby and taken to a medical facility. After he was given medical clearance, the Arson Task Force questioned him. They say his answers implicated that he set the fire intentionally, knowing others in the center would panic.

No injuries were reported.

Officials are not identifying the 18-year-old. He was arraigned in Rochester City Court Wednesday morning.
