ROCHESTER N.Y. (WHEC) — You can expect to see an increase in police presence if you go to Ontario Beach Park during Memorial Day Weekend.

The Rochester Police Department, Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, and New York State Police will increase patrols at the beach because a large turnout is expected.

"The goal of the Rochester Police Department is to make this weekend safe for all those that wish to visit." said a statement from RPD.

Officers will patrol on foot, bikes, and cars. RPD said they would close the parking lot and street for safety purposes if they become too full.

RPD increased patrols on Memorial Day Weekend of 2021 at the beach as well. On Memorial Day night of 2020, a large fight broke out at Ontario Beach Park that left one person hospitalized.
