ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) – A Rochester Police officer was hurt Monday night when his cruiser was crashed into by another vehicle.
RPD says the officer was in his patrol car just before 7 p.m., blocking off Lake Avenue at Harding Road, as police were attending to a car accident.
That’s when they say another car rammed into the driver’s side door of the police car, pushing it 20 yards down the road. The officer was able to radio in the call, and was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Police say the driver of the vehicle who crashed into the police car was under the influence of drugs. RPD Captain Steven Swetman says the officer’s injuries could have been much more severe if the crash occurred moments later, as the officer was in his car completing an accident report, and was about to exit the vehicle.
No names are being released at this time.
