RPD: Man identified in Lime Street shooting

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — RPD has identified the suspect in connection to the Lime Street shooting that took place on Sunday.

Rochester Police say the call came in for a person shot around 11:30 a.m. in the area of Lime Street and Whitney Street.

When they responded, they found a 51-year-old-woman with a gunshot wound to the upper body.

The woman was transported to an area hospital to be treated with what police say are non-life-threatening injuries.

The investigation quickly identified Willie Gibson, 32, as the suspect. Gibson is currently on parole for convictions of burglary in the first degree and criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree.

At approximately 5 p.m. the United States Marshall’s Service Task Force, comprised of members of the US Marshall’s Service, Rochester Police Department, Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, and the New York State Police took Gibson into custody.

Willie Gibson, 32, is charged with the following:

Assault in the second degree (D Felony)

Reckless Endangerment in the first degree (D Felony)

Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the second degree (C Felony)

Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the third degree.

He was transported to the Monroe County Jail and is expected to be arraigned Monday morning in Rochester City Court.
