ROCHESTER, NY (WHEC) – "In first grade, I’d always come home," Brighton High Senior Kiara Anglin said. "I don’t know if we got homework in first grade, but back then I would come home and first thing I’d do is my homework. So that way I had the rest of the day to do whatever I wanted."
And for the most part, that’s been basketball. The Brighton senior took up the sport in first grade. And with the amount of it she’s put in year-around, it’s easy to see why she’s a 4x Monroe County team member.
This year, Anglin reached was hooping for history. First, she hit the 1,000 point mark.
Then, she rose up again, this time, becoming the school’s all time scoring leader.
"My assistant coach, she held that record before me. So getting to break in front of her and have her coach me this whole season, it was it was great."
That degree of excellence has stayed with Anglin in the classroom and is leading her to Nazareth next year, where she’ll study Nursing. That’s been a long-standing goal.
"I’ve been interested in the medical field. I used to want to be a pediatrician when I was younger, so I knew somewhere along the line medical definitely something I wanted to do."
Congrats to Brighton High’s Kiara Anglin on being the latest News 10 NBC Scholar Athlete of the Week!
