ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Mary Marrapese enjoys success on the golf course and softball field but there’s one sport she goes way back with.
"I started playing basketball when I was about four years old," Marrapese said. "It is my main sport."
She has her reasons for it.
"I like how competitive it is," Marrapese said. "I like being able to play on a team and compete and I really like to win."
Marrapese wasted no time making a splash, by making Varsity as a freshman and eventually winning the Titan Scholar-Athlete award twice.
"There’s a lot of time management that comes into play, I always have to make sure on the weekends my free time, I’m constantly studying to make sure my homework on bus rides to and from games," Marrapese said.
It seems to have paid off. The tri-sport athlete was inducted into the national honors society along with the foreign language honors society.
"I’m really proud of all the challenges that I’ve been able to overcome," Marrapese said. "I think that time management has definitely been a real learning curve for me, so I’m really proud of that."
She says these have been the best four years of her life. Now, she looks forward to the next four. Though she might not know where that’ll be, one thing is for sure.
"I do hope to play sports in college," Marrapese said. "I’m just not ready to be done playing sports yet."
Congrats to Mary Marrapese on being this week’s News10NBC Scholar-Athlete of the Week.
