School resource officer in Auburn charged with sexual abuse

AUBURN, N.Y. (WHEC) — A school resource officer at Auburn High School has been charged with sexually abusing a student.

The Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office has charged 32-year-old William Morrissey III of Throop with first degree sexual abuse, endangering the welfare of a child and official misconduct. He is an Auburn City Police officer. He has been suspended without pay.

Deputies say Morrissey had repeated inappropriate conduct with a student in and around the City of Auburn and at the high school. The initial complaints came in Monday to the city manager and Auburn Police who turned the investigation over to the sheriff.
