ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Factories across the country, like Hickey Freeman in Rochester, stepped up in a big way to get personal protective equipment (PPE) distributed during the height of the pandemic.

The factory made and distributed fabric face masks to essential workers last year.

Sen. Maj. Leader Chuck Schumer said his plan to secure more American-made PPE contracts was included in the recent infrastructure deal.

That plan will clear the way for federal contracts to stockpile more PPE.

Companies like Hickey Freeman will then be eligible for those contracts.

The infrastructure deal is just waiting on President Joe Biden’s signature.
