FORT DRUM, N.Y. (WHEC) — Some of the last soldiers arrived home from Afghanistan on Monday.
The 10th Mountain Division was one of the most deployed units in the U.S. Army.
After spending the past nine months in Afghanistan, this group of 140 soldiers arrived by plane at Ft. Drum.
They are said to have been at the Kabul airport when it was attacked two weeks ago.
Now, they’re reuniting with their families.
"It’s just kind of the bitter, sweet feeling,” said Staff Sgt. Max Stonebraker. “Like, yes we are leaving Afghanistan, but at the same time we’ve lost a lot of friends and family over there. It’s nice to be finally done with that mission set, but it’s, like I was saying, you have that bitter, sweetness that you kind of wanted to keep helping."
